"Seizing the moment"

Salzburg, Austria

6

What can I say about Austria home of the Sound of Music and great beer. Our first trip out of the Czech Republic was to Salzburg for a week end get away. We took the train from Halavni Nadrazi (main station) to Linz and then from there on to Salzburg. The trip was long but worth the time.

7The main attraction of the area seems to be the city center as it is with most Central European countries. So after a brief break at the hotel we were off for the city center and Mozart Land. The walk to the city center was nice along the river. The color of the water was not something you would expect to see with what appeared to be mineral rich soft blue shade. We were actually quite tired from the train ride that we called it an early night.

1The next day we had a full agenda planned to include the fortress and the mountain top gondola ride. From the city center we took the trolley ride to the fortress. The history and views of the place were very interesting. My interest was all the early and World War II period stuff. They had armor warn by the soldiers who manned the fort as well as their weapons.

There were many places to eat and things to see. They were having some sort of festival and the streets were crowded with tourists including us.

5As you can see from the pictures our favorite part of the day was the gondola right to the top of one of the mountains. At the top there was a very nice pub. After my brief hike to the other mountain top we stat down to really good beer and people. We made some friends that we will likely never see again but we will have our memories.
